July 2026 - Saket Edgeware & Bailies Bar
Ho Ho Merry Currymass
If there is grass on the wicket, its time to play cricket. If the grass on wicket has a frosty layer and trees are bare, its time to celebrate the annual RCCC Mid-Winter Currymass. The traditional gathering point and pint was of course at the always packed Bailies Bar where meat raffle tickets were obtained and once proved worthless. Furtive glances at the pile of Secret Santa gifts were both plentiful, but no clues to the contents forthcoming, despite the rapid fire warm up drinks.
At the appointed hour the merry throng who numbered somewhere between a handful and two handfuls and a foot, cruised round to Saket. As befitting the Classiest Curry Club in Currydom, the restaurant seating had been completely reshaped to accommodate our large size and raucous nature. And the Amway-style multilevel marketing spiel we were subjected to by MD on arrival as he pushed a no-doubt spamware filled curry app onto us.
The gifts largely followed the “1990s” brief as stipulated by the Maharajah but there is always some wise ass who forgets the brief or tries to offload some old tat they have lying around. The CoTM trophy was also cunningly disguised as one of the presents for this year iteration and although SC was not impressed by this, he seemed cheer up with included socks. BC picked up the OG Cricketer award and RM the FOMO. Not sure how or why, just it was.
With a round of Kingfishers plus the odd mango lassie in place, the feasting could take place. A couple more adventurous Munchers plumped for the banquet, which looked bloody good and was an absolute mountain of food. Curry was has judged to have a good amount of heat for all the dishes and the hot Bhuna was especially very hot. Unfortunately the Goat Supreme was very salty and chewy so a bit of a let down given all the other glowing curry reports. The Banquet Bros also reported that the Galub Jamon dessert was excellent and didn’t look like a pair of salty balls at all.
A couple gentlemen headed back to Bailies afterwards for a quiet nightcap before slipping out into the night with full bellies and memories of another classic RCCC laughter filled night.
