Keys in the Curry Bowl

Alert to the possibilities of easy Merivale cougars and other real estate types, a rowdy throng assembled at No.4 Bar to begin the hunt. The keys for the RCCC wagon were placed in a bowl in a darkened corner and the wait to reel in the prey began. There had also been reports of peeping toms and randy prowlers circulating in the Maharajah’s neighbourhood of Prebbleton which added to heightened bloodlust amongst the thirsty RCCC crowd. Suspiciously, the Maharajah had declined the visitation, citing harem duties – a very dubious claim given his peccadilloes.

After a brief visit from the local constabulary chasing some leads on the Prebbleton pervert, the RCCC munchers settled in for a grazing at Indian Zaika. As is increasingly the norm, this entailed moving half the restaurant tables and chairs to accommodate the RCCC, but the staff responded quickly. Food was a tad slow to arrive but that tends to happen when 16 VIPs arrive at once, but there was no curry lottery later in the evening and service received a decent 4.3 / 5 score. Curry was absolutely on point with perfect flavour rand appropriate heat although one curmudgeonly character did call out onion bhaji for a slight lack of moisture and a requirement for more green sauce. The mutter mushroom and the naan were also singled out for special praise and thecurry scored a respectable 4.3 / 5. A little surprising given the unanimous high praise around the table on the night but maybe some munchers were more affected that others by the ice cold Kingfishers when entering their scores.

MH picked up the Cricketer and PM the FOMO trophy and these two good CoTM showed their dedication to the Club by getting sozzled on whisky later in the week, trophies in hand. That’s the sort of club spirit we can all aspire to.

Ever alert to the possibility of further late-night stalking, a couple die-hard stragglers slunk off for a further pint to close off the evening back at No.4. Sadly there had been no takers for the bait in the bowl and the members were left ruing lost opportunities. Must do better next time…
